What Equipments are Needed for a Complete HVAC System for a Building?

In general, the HVAC systems by a VRF HVAC Installation Services have the following Equipments or elements:

It has the equipment to generate heating or cooling. However, this equipment is selected with the capacity that can offset the peak load of the space or the spaces to be served.

Moreover, it has a means of distributing heat, cooling, and the filtered ventilation air where it is needed i.e. air, water, or steam.

It also has the devices that deliver the heat, cooling, and fresh air into the building including

 The registers and diffusers,

 The hydronic radiators or convectors, and

 The fan coil units etc.

1. The equipments to generate heating or cooling

The Heating System’s main Equipments: The main equipments that are used in heating systems include the following:

 Furnace,

 Hot Water & Steam Boiler,

 Heat Pump, and

 Local heating Systems.

Cooling System’s main Equipment: The main equipments that are used in the cooling systems will include the following:

 Chillers & Compressors,

 Cooling Towers, and

 Air Handling Units, and

 Fan Coil Units.

2. The Equipments for Chillers & Compressors:

The compressor is used to compress the refrigerant gas that causes it to become much warmer than the outside air. However, the refrigerant enters the compressor on the "suction side" and thereafter it leaves the compressor and that refrigerant is referred to as the "hot gas”.

However, the Chillers have two principal types of chillers: The air-cooled chillers and the water cooled chillers. Air is a poor conductor of heat as compared to water, and therefore the air-cooled chillers are larger and less efficient.

 The air cooled chillers are located outside the building in most of the cases and they reject the heat directly to the atmosphere.

 The water cooled chillers however are located within the building and they use cooling towers located outside the building for rejecting the heat.

Well, a water chilled system is to be used for larger buildings. And, in such a system the entire refrigeration cycle occurs within a single piece of equipment that is known as a “chiller”.

Talking about the commercial HVAC system, it has a variety of components and each of these components works together to ensure the overall system performance. However, if any of these components breaks down, then the whole system will not be damaged. But, just one part will get most of the attention and that part is the compressor.

Because the compressor is the “heart” of the HVAC system and it does the most work! However, many system problems don’t originate in the compressor but when you suffer early compressor failure then it generally means that there is another problem that has gone unnoticed. What are the Major Parts of the Commercial HVAC System?

1. Air Conditioner

The air conditioner in the commercial HVAC system is almost similar to a residential unit and its purpose is to dehumidify the air while removing the heat. However, it is important to remember that the air conditioner itself won’t cool down the building, but it will work with many other subsystems for regulating the temperature.

2. Compressor

A compressor as we said earlier is the key to the cooling cycle and it kicks off the main “loop” that will enable you to manage the temperatures. However, it compresses the refrigerant while raising its temperature. And, the refrigerant then gets passed on to the condenser where the cooling process will start in the earnest.

3. Condenser

The condenser is the heat exchanger that will serve as the hot side of the air conditioning unit and it removes the heat from the building while transferring it to the exterior. And the gas refrigerant then becomes the liquid refrigerant. However, a heat pump also has a condenser in many cases where it functions to collect the heat from the outside.

4. Thermal Expansion Valve

The expansion valve is an essential part of the functioning of a condenser as it removes the pressure from the liquid refrigerant so the expansion can take place while turning the substance from a liquid into the vapor. However, this expansion valve provides for a precise flow control of the refrigerant into the evaporator coil.

5. Air Handler

The air handler is the component that is responsible for circulating the air throughout the system. However, in most of the structures, it is connected directly to the ductwork. And, it blows the cooled or heated air into the building. And thereafter it returns the air back into the system. The air handler includes a blower, the heating and cooling elements, and a variety of other devices.

6. Terminal Units

The terminal units of a commercial HVAC system consist of an “air filter”, “a coil”, and “a blower”. However, their sizes can vary significantly. Well, the most common terminal units in a commercial HVAC are the mid-sized rooftop units in contrast to the largest make-up air units. They can be used for controlling the temperatures in a single room.

7. Chiller

The function of the chillers is to remove heat from the liquid that courses through the structure’s pipes and the chillers come in air-cooled and water-cooled varieties. In the air-cooled chiller, the condenser coils will be cooled by a fan-driven air in which the air unit usually found outdoors.

However, the systems that sustain the intense cooling for the long periods of time more likely use water-cooled chillers. Hence, these are chilled by the water that undergoes a constant recirculation process. And, as it circulates, the warm water will be carried away and the cool water will enter from an exterior cooling tower. Contact HVAC solution provider today for more details.

8. Duct System

Ducts are very old and they may even predate your current HVAC system but they should not be overlooked as an essential part of the system performance because they distribute air all throughout your building. And for the rest of your HVAC system to work properly, your ductwork must be clean and it should be intact.

However, in the old buildings, the narrow ducts that don’t conform to the modern HVAC standards can become clogged and that too without notice. But, cleaning these ducts annually can help you extend the service life of other components of the HVAC system. Well, you should not forget to clean or replace the filters as per the manufacturer instructions based on your filter type.

Well, the processes that make a commercial HVAC work are complex but the key to keeping the system running is the “regular maintenance” and taking into account all the components and the operating environment. So, if you’ve been getting the unreliable performance or you’re just not sure that your system is optimized then you can avail our Best HVAC Contractor India.
